The Wellness Tourism Association (WTA) has relaunched as a for-profit entity, under the leadership of president and CEO Robin Ruiz.
Ruiz is also the founder and CEO of Wellness in Travel & Tourism.
The WTA was founded as a nonprofit in 2018, but the organization was dissolved in May due to financial issues. Founding president and CEO Anne Dimon will be an advisor during the transition period then sit on the WTA advisory board.
"We had several companies express interest in reviving the WTA," Dimon said in a release. "But Robin's passion, mission-driven leadership and success with WITT made her the natural choice to carry the WTA forward for members and the industry."
New educational offerings, industry initiatives and member benefits are planned.
"This relaunch is a recommitment to changemakers who see travel as a force for well-being," Ruiz said. "I intend to honor the WTA's legacy, build on its foundation and reintroduce it as a space for new voices, ideas and a vital resource for the industry's future."
During its time as a nonprofit, the WTA had built a network for wellness-aligned DMOs, suppliers, travel advisors and others. It published a glossary of wellness tourism terms, conducted research and created the Wellness Travel Specialist Course with the Travel Institute.
