Travel fiascos are usually the source of frustration, anger and disappointment, but Travel Guard is rewarding the person with the worst story with $10,000.
The travel insurance provider launched its "World's Unluckiest Traveler" promotion, seeking to find the traveler with the worst story of bad travel luck.
"Did you endure a 22-hour flight seated next to a Tasmanian devil?" Travel Guard said in a release. "Did your luggage go on a separate vacation? Spend half the week in the hospital after a 'dining adventure?'"
Through Oct. 15, entrants can submit a video or photo and a story describing their misadventure.
Starting Oct. 16, a public voting period will open. For three weeks, anyone can vote for their favorite entry once per day. Travel Guard encourages entrants to share submissions on social media.
The highest vote-getter will win. The winner will receive $10,000. Awards will also be given to second, third and fourth place.
Additionally, a randomly selected voter will win a GoPro camera.
"We launched the World's Unluckiest Traveler to recognize those who have endured the worst in pursuit of their love of travel and to highlight those sorts of mishaps that might make a travel insurance plan worth considering," AIG Travel CEO Jeff Rutledge said.
