Brand owner Pan American Global Holdings has initiated the FAA certification process. It is working in partnership with Miami-based Avi8 Air Capital, an aviation merchant bank and strategic consulting firm.

Among many other projects over the past four decades, Avi8 has assisted with the restructuring of Air Tanzania, Air Jamaica, Cayman Airways and Canadian discounter Flair Airlines. It also helped with the equity raise, certification and launch of Miami-based charter carrier Global Crossings.

The Pan Am livery returned to the skies this summer on a Boeing 757 that tour operator Beyond Capricorn chartered.

The new commercial brand would operate a fleet of Airbus planes, Avi8 said. The original Pan Am was a Boeing operator and is best remembered for its luxurious 747. Pan Am ceased flying in 1991.

Should it achieve certification, the new Pan Am will be based out of Miami.
