Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, a popular Oahu destination known for its snorkeling and plentiful fish, will be closed for two weeks this fall, from Sep. 8 through Sep. 23.
The closure is due to a $840,000 repaving project. "This will allow the city contractor to conduct the repaving and restriping of the two main public parking lots, which offer approximately 280 parking stalls," the City and County of Honolulu said in a news release.
The last time the main roadway into the Hanauma Bay was repaved was in 2019, and the commercial vehicle parking lot was last repaved in 2017.
"We appreciate the patience and understanding of regular nature preserve visitors and first-time guests while the bay is closed for this necessary work," the City and County of Honolulu said.
